XLHealth Names Kieron Dey as Vice President of Clinical Innovation

Baltimore, Md., November 16, 2009 – XLHealth, a leading provider of Medicare Advantage solutions for those with special needs, has appointed Kieron Dey as vice president of clinical innovation.

In his new role, Dey will be responsible for developing programs to further optimize clinical interventions provided under XLHealth’s Medicare health plan subsidiary, Care Improvement Plus.  The programs will apply a ground-breaking new method of testing operational changes through statistical design, a method that Dey helped to build in his previous work for consulting firms QualPro, Inc. and IIT Research Institute. Care Improvement Plus is a Medicare Advantage health plan focused on underserved beneficiaries and those with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart failure.

“Kieron is a respected professional in the field of statistical design, and with his expertise, XLHealth will be able to evaluate and improve upon its clinical program in an accelerated fashion unique to the Medicare Advantage industry,” said John Mach, Chief Medical Officer at XLHealth.

“My focus will be exploring the impact of different combinations of interventions on costs and clinical outcomes such as hospitalization rates,” says Dey. “The health plan industry has only recently begun applying this methodology, so XLHealth is on the cutting edge in terms of its use of this particular approach.”

Prior to joining XLHealth, Dey served as technical director of QualPro Inc., a process improvement management consulting firm. In addition Dey previously served as a scientific advisor at the IIT Research Institute in Chicago, where he established a statistical business unit dedicated to innovation and improvement in all aspects of science and related technologies.  Dey earned his M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Reading in England.  He is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and has been previously named to the “International Who’s Who of Quality” list.
